The little broody bantam that could... our little Bantam decided to get broody again, about a month ago. We went through the process of marking her eggs and taking out any new eggs from other hens. Around 21 days into the process, when chicks are supposed to be hatching, we candled the eggs for viability. Alas, no activity, no chicks.
She was loyal to her eggs for a whole month. Tonight, we booted her out of the box, took the old eggs and got her to free range. She kept wanting to go back in her box, but we closed the door to the coop, in a tough love manner.
As soon as we let all the chickens back into the coop for the night, she immediately returned to her now empty box. Poor girl. We hope she comes out of this broodiness ok. We have so much to learn about chicken breeding. Shouldn't it just happen naturally?!
