Venus Fly Trap

We once owned a Venus fly trap. These are carnivorous plants that eat small insects. We noticed a fly that was dying next to our window and decided to give the plant a treat. 

This awesome plant “eats” when something touches the inside of its mouth, which in turn makes it close and digest whatever landed in it. Some people like to mess around and feed these plants odd things like hot dogs to see if it will digest it. 

Although I tried to simulate a marshy swamp like environment, alas, the plant sadly died a couple weeks later after this feeding. I have heard these are very high maintenance to maintain. It was very cool to observe while we had it for its short duration of life.
